Day 1: Bread of Life

Word:

John 6.35 Then Jesus declared, “I am the bread of life. Whoever comes to me will never go hungry, and whoever believes in me will never be thirsty.

Devotional:

You and I were made with a hunger and a thirst that can only be satisfied by relationship with Jesus. As we start 40 Days of Devotion, we are responding to the invitation of Jesus to come and be satisfied in Him.

Each day over the next forty days, you will receive a devotional in your inbox built around time in the Word, worship, prayer and listening. We encourage you to have your Bible, as well as a journal or something you can take notes with each day.

For the next several days, the devotions will be focused on the incredible invitation that Jesus gives to us to draw near to Him!

Invite a Friend:

Scriptures For Today:

As you read the Scriptures for today, read them slowly and be attentive to how the Holy Spirit wants to feed your hunger and satisfy your thirst in these words.

Isaiah 55.1-3 “Come, all you who are thirsty, come to the waters; and you who have no money, come, buy and eat! Come, buy wine and milk without money and without cost. Why spend money on what is not bread, and your labor on what does not satisfy? Listen, listen to me, and eat what is good, and you will delight in the richest of fare.”

John 6.35 Then Jesus declared, “I am the bread of life. Whoever comes to me will never go hungry, and whoever believes in me will never be thirsty.”

John 6.63 "The Spirit gives life; the flesh counts for nothing. The words I have spoken to you—they are full of the Spirit and life.”

Matthew 4.4 But Jesus replied, “It has been written, Man shall not live and be upheld and sustained by bread alone, but by every word that comes forth from the mouth of God.”

Worship:

Prayer:

Lord, I am hungry and thirsty this morning! I confess that too often have I looked to feed myself on things that do not satisfy. Thank you for your invitation this morning to come and to delight myself in the richest of fare! You are my bread of life and living water that satisfies my soul!

Listen & Obey:

Spend two minutes in silent, listening prayer. Write down what you sense the Holy Spirit speaking to you. Here are some prompts to help:

  • Lord, what do you want to speak to me from these passages of Scripture as I start my day?

  • How do you want me to apply this truth today?

  • Who do I need to share this with today?
