Day 19: Authority

Word:

Matthew 7.28 When Jesus had finished saying these things, the crowds were amazed at his teaching, 29 because he taught as one who had authority, and not as their teachers of the law.

Daily Devotional

The words of Scripture are not simply a collection of traditional wisdom, or ancient religious teachings. God’s Word carries authority because it comes from the King of Kings and Lord of Lords. As we start our day in His Word, we are submitting ourselves to His authority and leadership in our lives.

Scriptures For Today:

As you read today's Scriptures, read slowly and attentively, allowing the Holy Spirit to speak to you as you meditate on His Word.

Matthew 7.28 When Jesus had finished saying these things, the crowds were amazed at his teaching, 29 because he taught as one who had authority, and not as their teachers of the law.

Numbers 23.19 God is not man, that he should lie, or a son of man, that he should change his mind. Has he said, and will he not do it? Or has he spoken, and will he not fulfill it?

Proverbs 30.5 “Every word of God is flawless; he is a shield to those who take refuge in him.”

Isaiah 40.8 “The grass withers and the flowers fall, but the word of our God endures forever.”

John 17.17 “Sanctify them by the truth; your word is truth.”

Worship:

Prayer:

Last week we prayed a personal devotional prayer and a prayer for our church planting teams serving in the nations. This week, we continue with a personal devotional prayer and we are going to be praying for our churches serving in our nation.

Lord, Your Word is true, authoritative and flawless. I submit to Your Word today! You are not a man that You should lie, or the son of man that You should change Your mind. If you said it, I believe it! I put my trust in Your Word today!

Today we are praying Philippians 1.9-11 for our Washington DC church: “Lord, would Antioch DC abound in love and in the knowledge of God, with all discernment so that they might approve the things that are excellent and so be pure and blameless for the day of Christ. Would You fill them with the fruit of righteousness that comes through relationship with You to the glory and praise of God!”

Listen & Obey:

Spend two minutes in silent, listening prayer. Write down what you sense the Holy Spirit speaking to you. Here are some prompts to assist you:

  • Lord, what do You want to speak to me from these passages of Scripture as I start my day?

  • How do You want me to apply this truth today?

  • Who do I need to share this with today?
