Day 6: Friend of God
Word
Exodus 33.11 Thus the Lord used to speak to Moses face to face, as a man speaks to his friend. When Moses turned again into the camp, his assistant Joshua the son of Nun, a young man, would not depart from the tent.
Daily Devotional
One of the most remarkable themes in Scripture is that God calls and relates to people as His friends. God refers to Abraham as His friend (Isaiah 41:8). Regarding Moses, the Scriptures say that God spoke to him face to face, as a man speaks to his friend. Joshua developed as a young leader in that same environment (Exodus 33:11). Job spoke of knowing the friendship of the Lord (Job 29:4), and David wrote that God’s friendship is available to all who honor and revere Him (Psalm 25). Jesus also teaches His disciples that they are His friends (John 15:15).
Friends spend time together; by cultivating a personal devotional habit, we invest in our friendship with the Lord.
Scriptures For Today:
As you read today's Scriptures, focusing on friendship with God, read slowly and attentively, allowing the Holy Spirit to speak to you as you meditate on His Word.
Exodus 33.11 Thus the Lord used to speak to Moses face to face, as a man speaks to his friend. When Moses turned again into the camp, his assistant Joshua the son of Nun, a young man, would not depart from the tent.
Psalm 25.12-14 Who is the man who fears the Lord? Him will he instruct in the way that he should choose. 13 His soul shall abide in well-being, and his offspring shall inherit the land. 14 The friendship of the Lord is for those who fear him, and he makes known to them his covenant.
John 15.15 No longer do I call you servants, for the servant does not know what his master is doing; but I have called you friends, for all that I have heard from my Father I have made known to you.
Worship
Prayer:
Lord, thank You for inviting me into friendship with You! I desire to be like Moses, speaking with You face to face, and like Your disciples of old, with whom You shared all that You heard from the Father.
Listen & Obey:
Spend two minutes in silent, listening prayer. Write down what you sense the Holy Spirit speaking to you. Here are some prompts to assist you:
Lord, what do you want to speak to me from these passages of Scripture as I start my day?
How do you want me to apply this truth today?
Who do I need to share this with today?
