Day 5: Wisdom

Word:

Daniel 5.14 "I have heard that the spirit of the gods is in you and that you have insight, intelligence and outstanding wisdom.”

Daily Devotional

Daniel found himself serving in the courts of Babylon. Amid that hostile environment, his wisdom stood out, and people recognized that its source was God's Spirit. Repeatedly, we see that God desires to grant His people wisdom for daily challenges, often providing it through His Word and prayer.

By cultivating the habit of seeking God daily, we, like Daniel, position ourselves to receive the wisdom that comes from the Lord.

Scriptures For Today:

As you read the Scriptures for today, read them slowly and be attentive to how the Holy Spirit wants to speak to you as you meditate on His Word.

James 1.5 If any of you lacks wisdom, you should ask God, who gives generously to all without finding fault, and it will be given to you.

Psalm 119.97-104: Oh, how I love your law! I meditate on it all day long. Your commands are always with me and make me wiser than my enemies. I have more insight than all my teachers, for I meditate on your statutes. I have more understanding than the elders, for I obey your precepts. I have kept my feet from every evil path so that I might obey your word. I have not departed from your laws, for you yourself have taught me. How sweet are your words to my taste, sweeter than honey to my mouth! I gain understanding from your precepts; therefore I hate every wrong path.

Exodus 31:3 And I have filled him with the Spirit of God, with wisdom, with understanding, with knowledge and with all kinds of skills.

Isaiah 11.2b-3a The Spirit of the Lord will rest on him— the Spirit of wisdom and of understanding, the Spirit of counsel and of might, the Spirit of the knowledge and fear of the Lord—and he will delight in the fear of the Lord. He will not judge by what he sees with his eyes, or decide by what he hears with his ears; but with righteousness he will judge the needy, with justice he will give decisions for the poor of the earth.

Jeremiah 33.2-3 This is what the Lord says, he who made the earth, the Lord who formed it and established it—the Lord is his name: ‘Call to me and I will answer you and tell you great and unsearchable things you do not know.’

Worship:

Prayer:

Lord, thank You that You are the giver of wisdom. As I seek You today, I ask that You grant me Your wisdom and insight for the day ahead.

Listen & Obey:

Spend two minutes in silent, listening prayer. Write down what you sense the Holy Spirit speaking to you. Here are some prompts to assist you:

  • Lord, what do you want to speak to me from these passages of Scripture as I start my day?

  • How do you want me to apply this truth today?

  • Who do I need to share this with today?
