Day 17: Firm Foundation

Word:

Matthew 7.24 “Therefore everyone who hears these words of mine and puts them into practice is like a wise man who built his house on the rock.”

Daily Devotional

God’s Word is not just something that we read and seek to know. His Word is meant to be put into practice. As we do, we build the house of our lives on the timeless foundation of His faithfulness and wisdom. Each day when we read His Word in our devotional times, it readies us to put His Word into practice in our daily lives.

Scriptures For Today:

As you read today's Scriptures, read slowly and attentively, allowing the Holy Spirit to speak to you as you meditate on His Word.

Matthew 7.24-28 “Therefore everyone who hears these words of mine and puts them into practice is like a wise man who built his house on the rock. The rain came down, the streams rose, and the winds blew and beat against that house; yet it did not fall, because it had its foundation on the rock. But everyone who hears these words of mine and does not put them into practice is like a foolish man who built his house on sand. The rain came down, the streams rose, and the winds blew and beat against that house, and it fell with a great crash.” When Jesus had finished saying these things, the crowds were amazed at his teaching, 29 because he taught as one who had authority, and not as their teachers of the law.

Worship:

Prayer:

Last week we prayed a personal devotional prayer and a prayer for our church planting teams serving in the nations. This week, we continue with a personal devotional prayer and we are going to be praying for our churches serving in our nation.

Lord, Your Word is trustworthy and reliable. As I read Your Word today, I commit by Your grace to put it into practice and build my life on its firm foundation!

Today we are praying for our Detroit area churches. These are fourth generation churches that came from churches we planted, who then went on to plant churches who in turn planted these churches.

We are praying Ephesians 3.14-21, “Lord, would You fill our Detroit churches with strength through the power of Your Holy Spirit so that Christ might dwell in their hearts through faith. I pray that these churches would be rooted and established in love and that they would experience the width, length, height, and depth of Your love. Would You do immeasurably more than all we could even ask or imagine in and through them in the Detroit region and would You be glorified in their midst!”

Listen & Obey:

Spend two minutes in silent, listening prayer. Write down what you sense the Holy Spirit speaking to you. Here are some prompts to assist you:

  • Lord, what do You want to speak to me from these passages of Scripture as I start my day?

  • How do You want me to apply this truth today?

  • Who do I need to share this with today?
