Word:

Psalm 97.1 The Lord reigns, let the earth be glad; let the distant shores rejoice.

Daily Devotional

During the first week of the 40 Days of Devotion, each devotional focused on why we draw near to the Lord in personal devotion. Now that we're committed to daily personal devotion, we'll focus on how to build a meaningful devotional life. One of the staples of a rich devotional life is worshipping the Lord.

Psalm 97 gives us three simple and profound truths that fuel our worship:

  1. The Lord reigns

  2. This is joyful news worth celebrating

  3. Therefore we worship Him!

Scriptures For Today:

As you read today's Scriptures, read slowly and attentively, allowing the Holy Spirit to speak to you as you meditate on His Word.

Psalm 97.1-12 The Lord reigns, let the earth be glad; let the distant shores rejoice.

Clouds and thick darkness surround him; righteousness and justice are the foundation of his throne. Fire goes before him and consumes his foes on every side. His lightning lights up the world; the earth sees and trembles.

The mountains melt like wax before the Lord, before the Lord of all the earth. The heavens proclaim his righteousness, and all peoples see his glory. All who worship images are put to shame, those who boast in idols— worship him, all you gods! Zion hears and rejoices and the villages of Judah are glad because of your judgments, Lord.

For you, Lord, are the Most High over all the earth; you are exalted far above all gods. Let those who love the Lord hate evil, for he guards the lives of his faithful ones and delivers them from the hand of the wicked. Light shines on the righteous and joy on the upright in heart.

Rejoice in the Lord, you who are righteous, and praise his holy name.

Worship:

Prayer:

Each day for the next several days, in addition to personal prayers related to the devotional, we'll also pray for specific requests from our church planting teams worldwide.

Lord, You reign! You're the King over all and the King of my life. I rejoice in this good news today and worship You. Thank You for being my King. I surrender anew to You and Your kingship in my life. Let Your kingdom come throughout the earth!

Our teams serving in Southeast Asia amongst Buddhists (You can learn more about this area of the world here) have requested that we pray:

“Father, a season of reaping salvation and righteousness has come to Southeast Asia. Give Your people eyes to see what You are doing in the Buddhist world! Give laborers deep satisfaction and joy as they step into harvest opportunities. Give us the practical tools and the wisdom of the Spirit for every situation.”

Listen & Obey:

Spend two minutes in silent, listening prayer. Write down what you sense the Holy Spirit speaking to you. Here are some prompts to assist you:

  • Lord, what do You want to speak to me from these passages of Scripture as I start my day?

  • How do You want me to apply this truth today?

  • Who do I need to share this with today?
