Day 9: Forget Not All His Benefits

Word:

Psalm 103.1-2 Praise the Lord, my soul; all my inmost being, praise his holy name. Praise the Lord, my soul, and forget not all his benefits.

Daily Devotional

King David had an incredible devotional life, filled with worship. In Psalm 103, he challenges us to praise the Lord in light of all the benefits God gives to us, and then David lists many of them out.

God's people can be very forgetful. Throughout Scripture and human history, we see individuals forgetting the Lord and all the good He has shown them.

As we start our day with worship, we intentionally remind ourselves of all the many benefits that come from knowing the Lord!

Scriptures For Today:

As you read today's Scriptures, read slowly and attentively, allowing the Holy Spirit to speak to you as you meditate on His Word.

Psalm 103: Praise the Lord, my soul; all my inmost being, praise his holy name.

Praise the Lord, my soul, and forget not all his benefits—

who forgives all your sins and heals all your diseases,

who redeems your life from the pit and crowns you with love and compassion,

who satisfies your desires with good things so that your youth is renewed like the eagle’s.

The Lord works righteousness and justice for all the oppressed.

He made known his ways to Moses, his deeds to the people of Israel:

The Lord is compassionate and gracious, slow to anger, abounding in love.

He will not always accuse, nor will he harbor his anger forever;

he does not treat us as our sins deserve or repay us according to our iniquities.

For as high as the heavens are above the earth, so great is his love for those who fear him;

as far as the east is from the west, so far has he removed our transgressions from us.

As a father has compassion on his children, so the Lord has compassion on those who fear him; for he knows how we are formed, he remembers that we are dust.

The life of mortals is like grass, they flourish like a flower of the field; the wind blows over it and it is gone, and its place remembers it no more.

But from everlasting to everlasting the Lord’s love is with those who fear him, and his righteousness with their children’s children—with those who keep his covenant and remember to obey his precepts.

The Lord has established his throne in heaven, and his kingdom rules over all.

Praise the Lord, you his angels, you mighty ones who do his bidding, who obey his word.

Praise the Lord, all his heavenly hosts, you his servants who do his will.

Praise the Lord, all his works everywhere in his dominion.

Praise the Lord, my soul.

Worship:

Prayer:

Each day for the next several days, in addition to personal prayers related to the devotional, we'll also pray for specific requests from our church planting teams worldwide.

Lord, I praise You today and take time to remember the many benefits You have brought into my life. Thank you for all your lovingkindness and grace in my life. I love and worship You!

Our teams serving in Europe (You can learn more about this area of the world here) have requested that we pray:

“We thank You, Lord, that for thousands of years gospel seeds have been sown in the soils of Europe. We declare that now is the time for those seeds to take root and reap a harvest of salvation! Thank You, God, that You desire all in Europe to come to the knowledge of the truth (1 Tim. 2:3-4). And we pray earnestly for a harvest of European leaders and laborers (Luke 10:2). Raise up leaders who are not only hearers but also doers of Your Word, because they have found that You, O God, are the One their heart loves.”

Listen & Obey:

Spend two minutes in silent, listening prayer. Write down what you sense the Holy Spirit speaking to you. Here are some prompts to assist you:

  • Lord, what do you want to speak to me from these passages of Scripture as I start my day?

  • How do you want me to apply this truth today?

  • Who do I need to share this with today?
