Day 29: And Forgive Us Our Debts

Word:

Matthew 6.12a “and forgive us our debts…”

Daily Devotional:

To pray this line of The Lord’s Prayer with authenticity means to humbly acknowledge our sin and to admit our need for God’s forgiveness. God’s forgiveness wipes our slates clean and releases us from our debts that we might walk forward in His grace.

Scriptures For Today:

As you read today's Scriptures, read slowly and attentively, allowing the Holy Spirit to speak to you as you meditate on His Word.

Matthew 6.9 “This, then, is how you should pray: ‘Our Father in heaven, hallowed be your name. Your kingdom come, Your will be done on earth as it is in heaven. Give us today our daily bread, and forgive us our debts…’”

Hebrews 4.14-16 Since then we have a great high priest who has passed through the heavens, Jesus, the Son of God, let us hold fast our confession. For we do not have a high priest who is unable to sympathize with our weaknesses, but one who in every respect has been tempted as we are, yet without sin. Let us then with confidence draw near to the throne of grace, that we may receive mercy and find grace to help in time of need.

1 John 1.7-9 But if we walk in the light, as he is in the light, we have fellowship with one another, and the blood of Jesus his Son cleanses us from all sin. If we say we have no sin, we deceive ourselves, and the truth is not in us. If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.

Worship:

Prayer:

Father God, I humbly acknowledge my sin today. I have been (fill in the blanks here). I need your forgiveness. I confess and repent of these sins and ask that You would forgive my debts. I receive your forgiveness today and commit to forgive those who have sinned against me as well.

Listen & Obey:

Spend two minutes in silent, listening prayer. Write down what you sense the Holy Spirit speaking to you. Here are some prompts to assist you:

  • Lord, what do You want to speak to me from these passages of Scripture as I start my day?

  • How do You want me to apply this truth today?

  • Who do I need to share this with today?
