Day 28: Give Us Today Our Daily Bread

Word:

Matthew 6.11 “Give us today our daily bread.”

Daily Devotional

The next line in the Lord’s prayer leads us into asking our Father for provision- both material provision and spiritual provision. Bread in Scripture speaks both to the material provision that we all need, as well as the spiritual provision that we need as well.

Scriptures For Today:

As you read today's Scriptures, read slowly and attentively, allowing the Holy Spirit to speak to you as you meditate on His Word.

Matthew 6.9 “This, then, is how you should pray: ‘Our Father in heaven, hallowed be your name. Your kingdom come, Your will be done on earth as it is in heaven. Give us today our daily bread…’”

Philippians 4.6-7, 19 Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus…And my God will meet all your needs according to the riches of his glory in Christ Jesus.

2 Corinthians 9.8-11 And God is able to bless you abundantly, so that in all things at all times, having all that you need, you will abound in every good work. As it is written: “They have freely scattered their gifts to the poor; their righteousness endures forever.” Now he who supplies seed to the sower and bread for food will also supply and increase your store of seed and will enlarge the harvest of your righteousness. You will be enriched in every way so that you can be generous on every occasion, and through us your generosity will result in thanksgiving to God.

Worship:

Prayer:

Here are two prayers for today. One is devotional and one is for those in our city that do not know Jesus. Praying for the lost is one of the ways we prepare for harvest.

Father God, I come before You and acknowledge my need and dependency on You for my daily bread. Thank You that You supply all my needs. I trust You to provide today.

Today we are praying Psalm 119.67 and Luke 15.13-17 over those that don’t know Jesus in our city. Feel free to insert specific names of people in the prayer.

Lord, along with the blessings we have prayed over the lost in our city, would You work in the midst of their (insert names here) trials and tribulations to soften their hearts, bring them to their senses and awaken a hunger to know You in the midst of their pain and difficulty.

Listen & Obey:

Spend two minutes in silent, listening prayer. Write down what you sense the Holy Spirit speaking to you. Here are some prompts to assist you:

  • Lord, what do You want to speak to me from these passages of Scripture as I start my day?

  • How do You want me to apply this truth today?

  • Who do I need to share this with today?
