Day 15: Sweeter Than Honey

Word:

Psalm 119.103 How sweet are your words to my taste, sweeter than honey to my mouth!

Daily Devotional

In addition to worship, spending time in God’s Word is another key building block of a rich and meaningful devotional life.

King David described God’s Word as sweet like honey. Jesus likened it to bread. Peter compared it to milk that satisfies a nursing baby. All of these metaphors serve to paint the picture of God’s Word being nourishing to our souls like food is nourishing to our physical bodies. Just like we feast on food each day to strengthen our outer man, we want to feast on God’s Word each day to strengthen our inner man.

Scriptures For Today:

As you read today's Scriptures, read slowly and attentively, allowing the Holy Spirit to speak to you as you meditate on His Word.

Psalm 119.103 How sweet are your words to my taste, sweeter than honey to my mouth!

Matthew 4.4 Jesus answered, “It is written: 'Man shall not live on bread alone, but on every word that comes from the mouth of God. '”

1 Peter 1.22 - 2.3 Having purified your souls by your obedience to the truth for a sincere brotherly love, love one another earnestly from a pure heart, since you have been born again, not of perishable seed but of imperishable, through the living and abiding word of God; for “All flesh is like grass and all its glory like the flower of grass. The grass withers, and the flower falls, but the word of the Lord remains forever.” And this word is the good news that was preached to you. So put away all malice and all deceit and hypocrisy and envy and all slander. Like newborn infants, long for the pure spiritual milk, that by it you may grow up into salvation— if indeed you have tasted that the Lord is good.

Worship:

Prayer:

Lord, Your Word is sweet to my taste and nourishing to my soul. Thank You for Your faithfulness to feed me from Your Word. Help me to be faithful to feast on this precious provision each day and not to take Your Word for granted!

Listen & Obey:

Spend two minutes in silent, listening prayer. Write down what you sense the Holy Spirit speaking to you. Here are some prompts to assist you:

  • Lord, what do You want to speak to me from these passages of Scripture as I start my day?

  • How do You want me to apply this truth today?

  • Who do I need to share this with today?
